ENEvery day we have to deal with sensitive documents. Many of us handle these documents by storing them in multiple places and others use complex passwords to keep their documents secure. Some, carefully choose a secure cloud solution that values their privacy.
More often than not organizations tend to mishandle sensitive documents. Making sure you have the right processes in place, when handling sensitive data, is important, specially when the GDPR comes into force.

1. Lost laptop with important data
In 2013, two laptops from the insurance company Horizon Blue Cross Shield, were stolen. Almost 840,000 subscriber details were exposed. The laptops while password-protected, could still be accessed through other means. In the end Horizon Blue Cross Shield could not ascertain what happened to the laptops and the data they contained.
What can I do about this?
The main problem in the situation described above was the lack of encryption. Even when password protected, someone can still access the data in case it gets stolen. If you encrypt the data locally it would make accessing the data more difficult. With Bitlocker (Windows) and FileVault (Apple) you can encrypt your hard drive data.

2. Felll victim to ransomware
The fact that many companies are still not prepared against ransomware, is still very present. News from recent ransomware attacks appear every year. The most recent example was delivery company TNT, which fell victim to the NotPetya ransomware outbreak in June. The virus infected sensitive company files that could not be accessed or recovered, costing up to $300m of damages. TNT in end had to pay 300 dollars in Bitcoins, but the damage was already done.
What can I do about ransomware?

3. Hacker deleted all files
